RE: 17" Wheels: Not the best for truck campers?

Stock Dodge 2005 factory aluminum wheels. Yes, I guess the weak link would be the wheels.

RE: 17" Wheels: Not the best for truck campers?

I am using the Nitto Terra Grapplers, 285/70-17 E rated tires with a load rating of 3700lbs each.

Dodge 2500 Supersprings

Has anyone installed Supersprings on a 2005+/- Dodge 3/4ton shortbed? I see that medium load (SSA-10) and a heavy duty load (SSA-15) kits are available. Any recommendations on which kit to get?

RE: 2 Miles per gallon

becker, I'm with you. I actually find the slower speeds are more of a problem on the two lane roads. Sometimes, I'll speed up a bit to keep cars from backing up behind me or in hilly areas where it is difficult to pass.
I was a bit annoyed just the other day coming out of Grand Canyon Nat'l Park to Williams, AZ. The speed limit was 65 on the two lane and I was following a motorhome barely managing 45. I think he definitely was a traffic hazard. At 55 or 60, he would have been ok, but 45 was just too slow.

RE: Fleetwood Discovery diesel 2003

The "ticking" you hear when you try to start the generator is normal. Let it "tick" for a few minutes (or less) and the starter will kick in. I think it heats the glow plugs????? It's like the "WAIT" light that comes on when you first start the main engine.

RE: Bus Conversion or Class A?

NADA guide lists the low retail for the 2006 Ellipse for around $150k without options. $90k would seem a smokin' hot deal. I would think a 2006, 40ft,quad slide, ISL for would be worth a bunch more than that.

RE: Is 330 HP enough

Isn't there a saying about never having too much power, having too much money, or being too good looking. I can't argue with the power or money, but sometimes it is difficult being this good looking.:)

RE: WHat was the tire people were having troubles with?

The Michelin LTX A/S has a problem with premature sidewall cracking. It was standard equipment on my 2005 Dodge 2500. Mine will need to be replaced at 4 years old at about 1/2 wear.

RE: Spread sheet ?????

Ooops, forgot to add that you will need to copy the formulas in columns G & H. Click in column G and drag to column H to highlight both columns in any existing row. Go to the Edit menu, click on copy, then go to column G in your new inserted row, click in that cell, go to the edit menu, click on paste.
There are quicker ways, but this is the most straightforward. Those of us that have been around spreadsheets for awhile use the "CTRL C" to copy and "CTRL V" to paste.
Also, I noticed that some of the formatting is incorrect. Example, the average miles per gallon is formatted in $. Just click on that cell, go to the Format menu, click on Number and select Number. I would set the decimal places to 2.
Good luck

RE: Spread sheet ?????

(Assuming you are using Works version 8.5) and have the same Road Trip Log that I have)...
Click on an empty line in the spreadsheet (be sure to click on the row header on the far left to highlight the entire row), go to the insert menu and insert a row (or click the right button on your mouse). If you insert a row at say the 17th row down or anywhere prior to the summation row, the formulas will re-calculate to include that row. Be sure to enter your beginning mileage from the last fill up for each trip in the "Initial odometer reading" or it will include all miles since "0". Be careful not to enter anything into columns G or H or you will overwrite the formulas in those columns.
You can create a new spreadsheet for each trip, or just keep adding rows.
Hope this helps.

RE: Easy Way to Improve Mileage

Just drove 3400 miles from CA to the Dakotas and back. I tried staying at around 57mph. Enjoyed the slower pace, but out of the 3400 miles there was probably only 2 where the wind wasn't blowing or I was going up or down a hill. When it is hilly, I found that 60mph in 6th was a little more comfortable as the rig didn't shift down as much.
My long term average has been 7.3mpg at around 65mph. I averaged 8.2 on this trip. I actually found I enjoyed the 57mph tho as it seemed more relaxing. I find the journey is as enjoyable as the destination.

RE: MPG/Horsepower calculator

I do use the VMSPC so I should be able to really see the REAL difference on the next trip.
Does anyone know where I can post the spreadsheet so others can download it? Some of you other spreadsheet guys might want to improve it some. I was going to add a few features, but I had better things to do (read that, my wife had better things for me to do).
One of my motivations was to show some non-forum types that are complaining about the price of fuel and how the oil companies are screwing us that if they just slow down, it could be the equivalent of lowering the price of fuel significantly. If you're disgusted with the oil companies obscene profits, the best way to get even is to slow down. I figured the best way to get even was to own their stock, so I kind of like the obscene profits (and my future retirement may be partially funded by those obscene profits, but that's another story).

MPG/Horsepower calculator

Just for kicks, I took someone elses horsepower calculator and created an Excel spreadsheet for my motorhome. I compared different weights and speeds to see what theoretical difference some variables would make. I found that if I'm getting 7mpg at 62mph, theoretically I could get almost 8.8mpg at 55mph. This slow down cost me .86 hours in a 417 mile trip, but saved me $53.34 in fuel.
It may not be entirely accurate since the calculations are, of course, just calculations, but I thought it was an interesting excercise. I will drive 55mph on my next trip to see how close the spreadsheet is.

RE: Roadmaster, Hummer ,and BrakePro "Bad Combination"

Did you get the 10,000lb cables with your Blackhawk towbar? I ordered the 10k towbar, but they didn't bother to tell me that while they list a 10k set in their catalog, they just didn't make them at the time. I got absolutely no help from Roadmaster when I told them I was towing my Dodge 2500 4X4 diesel with two atv's loaded and NEEDED the 10k cables. I finally went to Blue Ox and got their 10k cables. That's where I'll go for all future towing products.
